If only, the first time this country chic painted bed, was primed or painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, it wouldn’t have needed to be stripped and sanded down before applying 3 coats of ASCP. A very nice young lady named Melanie dropped off this previously painted Roxton headboard and footboard for repainting. She had started to sand down one of the posts on the footboard and realized what a huge job this could turn into.
I knew I had to chemically strip off all this peeling paint to get it to a point where I could lightly sand it down and apply a colour called Old White by ASCP. I was fortunate that a couple of weeks ago when I started it the weather outside was great and so I could do the stripping out in the yard. It took a couple of afternoons, quite a bit of stripper and a lot of patience. This sucker had A LOT of spindles to clean off.
After the paint dried, Melanie wanted a heavily distressed look so that’s what I gave her. With my 120 grit sandpaper I removed much of the paint from all the lovely details of the piece and then a little extra for Melanie. I then waxed the piece with Annie Sloan Soft Clear Wax for added protection and durability. I just love the way it turned out!!
