I had been hanging on to the classic Duncan Phyfe Bed Frame for some time now. I purchased it at the same time as this Malcolm desk last summer. I just love the pineapple finials on each post and the classic curves of the headboard.
I decided I wanted it to be dramatic. So what better drama than General Finishes Lamp Black. So lovely going on. The paint is truly luxurious. It self-levels and gives a wonderful flat finish. It is an acrylic based product and has an extremely flat or matte finish which requires a sealer. A topcoat, of the recommended sealer, from General Finishes that is also water-based and extremely safe to use, is called High Performance. I prefer this product in a satin finish.
Quick Tip – Just remember if you use any milk paint by GF’s, you are required to prep the surface before painting your piece. General Finishes recommends a light sanding and cleaning with a denatured alcohol, water solution (1:1). Make sure you wipe off the surface and let dry before applying the paint. This both breaks down that shiny surface and makes the surface more porous to accept the paint.
This is a double size bed frame and even though the rails are not pictured, the bed frame does come with rails (painted to match)
