What a great basket full of Xmas fun!! I bought these lovely large Xmas balls last year after Christmas at a really great price!!! Gotta love those after Xmas sales. I just loved how the blue and silver looked in the long cylindrical plastic containers they were housed in. I’ve always wanted to hang some ornaments off of our magnolia tree in the front yard. It just looks so bare in the winter.
I first purchased some blue nylon ribbon as I hoped it would be durable enough in our Canadian winters with the snow and wind. So I looped the ribbon through the holes and tied the ends in a sailor’s knot. Very simple to do; tie a simple knot and then cross the knot in the opposite direction to make a very strong knot. I started stacking them into my fabric basket that I purchased from Homesense some years ago. I had to get a couple of pictures as they looked really festive in the basket.
Once I got outside I realized this wasn’t going to be easy. My husband likes to cut them way up and I was not comfortable using an A frame ladder to climb up onto it especially with the uneven ground. So I decided to use the stick toss method that my husband and I would use when we went back country camping in North Ontario to keep our food bag away and far from the wandering bears and raccoons. If you tie the end of your ribbon/robe to a heavy enough stick and throw it over a branch it easily comes down on the other side so you could hoist the bag or in this case my ornaments up the tree. I just love the way they turned out…. I will definitely get more for next year!!
