“Chestnut” is a lovely mahogany painted occasional cabinet that I found on the north side of my town in a lovely area off Highway 20. It belonged to a young mom that lived on “Chestnut” that was running a small daycare in her home when I showed up to pick up the cabinet. I liked the size of it and the fact that it had a couple of adjustable shelves in it to organize taller or shorter items. But I knew a couple of baskets along with the drawer would provide lots of valuable storage.
The top was refinished and stained with Java Gel Stain. The rest of the cabinet was painted with Country Chic Paint in a seasonal colour called Ocean Breeze. I applied two coats and it covered wonderfully!! I then used a new metallic cream product by Country Chic Paints called Pewter. It’s a lovely rich dark grey/pewter colour that I applied to the top of the cabinet (over the stain) to give it a lovely sheen and to seal in the gel stain.
I also applied the metallic cream to the edges of the rest of the piece to highlight the lovely details of the piece. I also strategically distressed some areas of the front door to give it that worn patina. The hardware was removed and given a spray of Aged Bronze.
It measures: 22″W x 15 1/2″D x 37 1/2″H
