I had the pleasure of completing a couple of milk painted Jacobean buffet this past week. I spent a couple of days in Niagara-On-The-Lake in a century plus home. Clients Patrizia and Domenic have beautifully renovated their home and are now filling it with vintage and antique pieces to fit right in. The couple has two young boys and the younger one’s name is William hence the name of the buffet “Willy”.
Patrizia had chosen to use Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in a colour called Shutter Gray. What a beautiful blue/gray colour it is. Her husband Domenic had primed it for me already so all I had to do was add a couple of coats of the milk paint to achieve this beautiful colour. After blending the milk paint powder and water (1:1 and I like to mix it in a mason jar and just shake) I strategically distressed to bring out the lovely walnut tones and the white primer that was applied before the paint.
After the distressing the Annie Sloan Soft Clear Wax was applied. And for a touch of interest and dimension gold gilding was added to all the ornate bits and edges. The hardware was cleaned down to the lovely brass colour with water and vinegar in the boiling pot technique both safe and effective…. worth every second of work!!
I hope “Willy” this milk painted Jacobean buffet is enjoyed in your home Patrizia and Domenic for many years to come!! Please enjoy him!
