What a great example of a shabby or cottage chic dresser!! Found this great little dresser on Riverside Dr. in Welland. I’ve also had this mirror stored away from our move to Fonthill some years ago.
The cottage chic dresser is a lovely four drawer solid maple piece that is much heavier than it looks. It was looking very dirty and pathetic when I picked it up. I wanted it to be bright and cheery hence my choice of colours, with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and one of my new favourites Duck Egg Blue.
First I did a coat of Duck Egg on all the surfaces than a second coat of Old White that was watered down- applied with a latex brush to accentuate the brush strokes. After leaving it to slightly dry I began to distress with a wet cloth rubbing much of the white off. Almost like a reverse whitewash.
I did the same with the mirror… apply the watered down Old White and then wipe off the surface to expose all those great colours beneath the white. It really was a lot of work but man was it worth it!! I wanted the drawers to stand out so I just applied one coat of the Duck Egg and wet distressed them as I did the Old White. Fantastic!!
What a great look in any shabby, cottage chic, beachside decorating scheme. I imagine this duo at the entrance of your cottage by the lake.
