Don’t you just love the shape of this classy little ornate chocolate cabinet? A new client of mine, Beverley, dropped this off last week along with a dressing table, and is intending to use them in her new dressing room. She wanted a colour that would compliment her colour choices of tile, counter top, and beige wall colour.
I have to mention that I found out that this cabinet was actually a “chocolate” cabinet, used to displaying chocolate treats in ones home. I wanted to thank my friend from “Consignment Showcase” on Facebook who told me what it was used for.
Bev thought blue would be best for this piece and I certainly agreed. We looked at a few different colours and I suggested she leave it with me and I would come up with the perfect blue to match well with her beige colour scheme.
I needed more paint so I thought I would run this colour collaboration by my paint guru stockist at the Painted Bench in Hamilton, Melanie. We played around with some different combinations of colours but agreed that Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Aubusson Blue had to be the base. We tried both the Old White and Old Ochre with Aubusson Blue and decided on the Old White Aubusson Blue 1:1 combination. As luck has it, the colours that make up the wonderful layers of this piece only enhance the final look. The black, white and gold colour beneath all the layers after distressing adds dimension to this piece. The wax has given it a slightly deepened colour, and protection.
This ornate chocolate cabinet will be a wonderful addition to Beverley’s dressing room. The inside of the cabinet would be lovely place to store towels and the top for her collection of perfumes.
There is also a lovely tray that fits atop this piece that will be revealed in the next couple of days.

This sounds so cliche but they don’t make furniture like that anymore. You did a beautiful job on it.
