This lovely turquoise french provincial buffet was found on “Kew” Court in Greensville well over a year ago now. I’ve had it in my home in various areas and it always looked good in any spot I put it in. It’s such a lovely shape with four very nice drawers and four cupboards for storage of large items you may have.
I first chemically stripped the top surface then lightly sanded it for a lovely smooth finish. I wanted to use a Minwax product I had in stock in a colour called Special Walnut. After the first coat I decided that for the next coat or two I will go back to my General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain. For this particular surface the Gel Stain simply is far superior a product. I find that when staining a hardwood like this maple veneer the Gel stain works much better in this application. As the final step for the top surface I used the General Finishes Gel Topcoat that goes on so wonderfully!!
I used a custom turquoise combination of colours by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I mixed 3 parts Florence with 1 part Old White 1 part Country Grey and 1 part Aubusson Blue to get this fantastic turqouise colour. After cleaning the whole cabinet well with TSP (TriSodium Phosphate) and rinsing well with water the whole surface received 2 coats done by hand in this colour. I then clear waxed the whole piece with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Clear Soft Wax and applied glaze by General Finishes in the Brown Van Dyke Glaze.
This turquoise french provincial buffet is a perfect size for a small dining room, kitchen, as a media centre for your TV, or even used as a bedroom dresser.
