These great shabby cottage coffee and end table set were found in Welland from a very nice young man who very graciously gave us a bag full of heirloom tomatoes this past September as he had far too many to keep for himself. I have to say they were amazing tomatoes!! It’s these kinds of tomatoes that you get spoiled with that time of year and can’t seem to eat them the rest of the year.
But the reason I call this set “Castor” was because he had many castor plants spread around his yard and my husband and I had no idea what they were. He explained that the seeds were poisonous and that in fact the poison that Walter White used in the HBO tv series Breaking Bad came from the seeds of the castor plant- did not know this. The leaves of the castor plant were this deep red colour and so I decided to do the shabby cottage coffee and end table set in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Emperor’s Silk colour, distressed- lightly- to reveal the dark wood color beneath and then clear waxed all the painted wood.
The top of the coffee table was refinished in my favourite GF Java Gel Stain to match the distressed areas of the red. I love the way they turned out!! What a great update to these old-fashioned 80’s tables.
They measures for the tables are:
Coffee Table: 50″L x 23″W x 15 1/2″H
End Tables: 28″L x 23″W x 20 1/2″H
