Shabby chic chairs are what I envisioned for these chairs while they were sitting around for some time in my workshop. I was actually stumbling over them for the last couple of months. I’ve had an array of different fabrics on hand and couldn’t make up my mind as to what fabric to reupholster them in. Another reason was pure procrastination as I knew I needed to re-glue them. So with all this humidity outside, I’ve managed to tighten them up to get the squeaky wobble out of them.
The shabby chic chairs were picked up from a thrift shop in Port Colborne, Ontario that is just south of where I live. So, that’s why I named them “Port”. They were in pretty rough shape when I got them into my Civic. That sure was a sight, me and my Honda Civic driving down the street with the trunk open but strapped down…. like a scene from the Hollywood Hillbillies.
But they sure did clean up well. I started with a couple of coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in my go-to colour of Old White, giving them a new lease on life. I lightly distressed them and applied a good coat of the Annie Sloan Soft Clear Wax for added durability and protection.
These shabby chic chairs look fabulous with the reupholstered black and white honeycomb check pattern. They would look awesome in a cottage, seaside or beach style of decorating.
