As soon as I saw “Edward” I was in deep “like” with him. I knew I could be in deep “love” after I dressed him up a bit. He has classic Queen Anne legs, a slight bow in the front that includes the drawers, and these three lovely ornate “crowns” on the doors and the back board.
Found him in Hamilton on Edward Street from a young man that was just starting dialysis and needed to move closer to his treatments so he was getting rid of some of the items in his apartment. So happy to have found this piece.
I started by stripping, lightly sanding and giving the surface a combination of General Finishes gel stains (Java and Antique Walnut). I sealed the top with wipe on polyurethane. Fabulous natural colours to go well with the General Finishes Lamp Black milk paint that I chose for the rest of the cabinet.
After two coats of the milk paint on the refinished black buffet I lightly distressed the edges to give it a slightly worn look allowing for the lovely walnut (almost gold) colours to come through. And to seal the milk paint I used the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Soft Clear Wax for protection and durability of the paint.
Then to add that royal touch I had to apply my gold gilding to highlight the beautiful details. So beautiful!!!!
The refinished black buffet measures: 51″ W x 20″ D x 36″H (+ 7″H crown)
