I finally found a painted empire dresser in Stoney Creek on “Royal Oak” Drive, that I can call my own!! It has the classic curves on the front leg profiles and the protruding top set of drawers that makes it a classic empire style. Unfortunately, this one did not come with a mirror. I wanted it to be dramatic and bold and I think I’ve achieved it in the form.
The painted empire dresser is quite large and measures 46″ W x 22″ D x 34″ H. I wanted to revitalize the wood on the fronts of the drawers so I used my go to wonderful General Finishes Java Gel Stain. I then wanted a black, so I used the General Finishes Lamp Black that gave me the look I was after. I have to say it went on like a dream!! It reminded me of using trim paint. After two coats of the Lamp Black, I distressed the corners to give them a bit of a worn look and then applied two coats of the General Finishes High-Performance Top Coat.
I next needed a pop of colour and visited my friend Melanie at The Painted Bench in Hamilton and picked up these great ceramic knobs to add and give it that pop of colour it needed. What a transformation!!! I absolutely love this painted empire dresser!!
This would look great in any room. Imagine this in your dining room or as a sideboard/tv console in your living room or a place in the front hall/mudroom to place your stuff on or into when you come into the door or the obvious bedroom storage for the dramatic look.
