I must admit, I’m a little smitten with this beauty. This is my first – Governor Winthrop painted desk / secretary hutch – that is, and I can’t stop looking at her. I typically don’t become attached to a piece but she really is extraordinary. Her regal crown, hutch with glass shelves and doors, that serpentine four drawer curvaceous chest, large desk area with ornate drawer, letter slots and a secret door to hide your most private. Let’s not forget her sexy feet, all four ball and claw.
She was picked her up in St. Catharines on “Addison” Street off of a Kijiji ad, the Canadian version of Craigslist, from a lovely young lady. She was storing it at her parent’s home in St. Catharines but was unable to bring it to her small home in Toronto due to her lack of space there.
French Linen and Duck Egg Blue by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint were my colour choices for Addison. I gave her a bit of a distress to highlight all her wonderful features and then applied the ASCP clear soft wax for protection, durability and a wonderful sheen. She didn’t come with the original wooden shelves so I had some glass shelves cut to fit.
She is certainly a classic, perfect area to sit down and write emails on your laptop or pay your bills. She also has plenty of storage.
