Such a wonderful journey for this beautiful French Bistro Maple Table. A new client of mine “Darlene” contacted me back in January to source a table and chairs for her new condo that she would be moving into in March. The inspiration photo she sent me was this very chic dining set with a bistro pedestal table painted in a dark gray colour. It was paired with a set of Louis XIV chairs.
I knew the table wouldn’t be a problem to find, so I began sourcing the chairs. I soon found out that looking for these kinds of chairs was a challenge. I searched out my local Kijiji ads, Craigslist from across the border in the Buffalo area, and all my online auctions, and nothing. I think I found two sets of 8 chairs that were ridiculously expensive and had to be painted and reupholstered as well. So I turned to retail. I found these amazing chairs for under $200 each at Structube located in Oakville. Amazing price and colour! So Darlene picked up those chairs I think the week after.
Now for the table! Because the table is maple the whitewash wouldn’t work well on hardwood so Darlene and I came up with this colour wash combination of a gray base, whitewash, and Antique Walnut Gel Stain. I sealed it all in with a WipeOn Polyurethane by Minwax. It was a very close reproduction of the oak chairs.
The pedestal base was painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Old White and then heavily distressed. Wax finished it off for protection and durability.
And here it is set up in her dining area off her kitchen. Perfection! It really looks sooooo good!
