This lovely petite eggplant painted cabinet was such a delight to finish. My client “Linda” wanted an eggplant colour to don this lovely textured cabinet that she had in her den. I suggested a custom combination colour of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint with a mixture of Old Violet and Graphite to get this luxurious deep aubergine colour. So rich and beautiful. The piece is actually laminated so to prepare the surface I sanded everything that I could with a 120 grit sand paper. After wiping it all down I applied my first coat of paint. This is my go to paint for funny surfaces. ASCP is wonderful on almost any surface. To me, it’s like have a primer built right into it. I then applied a couple more coats to achieve this wonderful colour.
To finish I applied General Finishes High-Performance water based topcoat. Chalk Paint needs to always be sealed in some way for protection and durability. I usually use wax over my chalk paint but this time wanted a bit of a sheen so I went ahead and applied the GFHP topcoat.
To finish the piece off I applied a silver gilding wax to the round raised images on each wide of the cabinet. The wax also was applied to the drawer handle and door pull. So adorable!! Don’t you think?
