It’s always a little distressing to see someone so attached to something like this Duncan Phyfe Painted Buffet. Joyce, whom I purchased this cabinet from, had to recently put her ninety-two-year-old father into a nursing home and clear out his home. She didn’t want to give up the buffet but couldn’t find room in her home on “Cindy” Dr. in St. Catharines.
The top of this lovely mahogany Duncan Phyfe Painted Buffet was stripped, sanded and stained with General Finishes Gel Stain in a colour called Antique Walnut. It turned out beautifully. I also used a General Finishes Gel Topcoat to seal and protect the surface. The hardware was removed, cleaned and given a spray of Rustoleum Antique Bronze.
The rest of the cabinet was painted in my perfect “greige” colour. Not really beige and not really gray. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint French Linen is that perfect colour. With some light distressing on all those lovely edges and a good coat of clear wax also by Annie Sloan, buffed to a perfect sheen giving this piece the finishing touch.
This would look great in a classic way as a buffet or sideboard in a dining room or a TV console in your family room. The colour is a perfect mix of traditional and a chic beachy neutral.
It measures: 50″W x 19″D x 30″H
