This lovely black walnut refinished server was found on “Twenty Road” just south of Smithville, Ontario. The location of this beautiful piece I will never forget!! It was out in the country and when we arrived all was quiet. When we rang the doorbell we knew there were LARGE dogs inside. My husband and I notice in the front windows two HUGE Rottweilers with heads the size of 10-pound bowling balls.
The lady asked us to wait while she put them in another room. We were so preoccupied with the dogs in the other room (even though she was very reassuring that the door would not cave behind their aggression) that we paid her and flew out the front door with this server in tow. Yowza!!
The black walnut refinished server was sitting in our storage area “aka” garage when a client asked if we had a large buffet/server to match their custom work they were looking into having done. As soon as they saw it (the before picture) they wanted it.
So I began by stripping the buffet. Sanded it and added my go-to General Finishes Gel Stain this one in Antique Walnut. I ended up adding three coats to get this rich walnut colour. It received a coat of GF High-Performance Topcoat.
With the rest of the cabinet, I painted it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White (3 coats with a coat of shellac in their to sell in the colour). I then distressed it highlighting all the beautiful details of the cabinet. The final step for this black walnut refinished server was a coat of clear wax on the white.
Measurements: 60″ W x 20″ D x 38 1/2 ” H to top of the back band.
I hope that Dan and Josee enjoy this piece in their new home together for many years to come!!
