This classic black buffet /server probably from the 30’s or 40’s has lovely simple lines and bold presence. I’ve had this server in my dining room for years. I acquired it in the east end of Hamilton, Ontario hence the name “Parkdale”. If you are from Hamilton you know that “Parkdale” is “East End Hamilton”.
I wasn’t sure what colour I was going to paint it but I definitely knew the top had to be refinished. This seems to be my signature “thing”. I really like the contrast between the rustic walnut stain and any colour I’ve painted the rest of the cabinet.
I wanted to try a really dark colour this time on my mid century piece. So Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite was going to be the ticket. After two coats of paint, I waxed it with Annie Sloan Dark Wax. This gave the whole piece a much darker deeper graphite (almost black) colour. Absolutely gorgeous!!!
The buffet measures: 60″W x 22″D x 39″H.
This piece would look great in a sleek kitchen/dining room or perhaps in a modern living room with a rustic touch. Just fabulous!!!
